Starlings Against Stroke – October 5 (Completed)
On Saturday, October 5, we organized Starlings Against Stroke, a charity fishing event to raise money for the Swedish Stroke Association (Strokeförbundet). The event marked the 10-year anniversary of one of our co-owners surviving a stroke.
Early in the morning, a thick fog covered Lake Juttern, making it impossible to see the opposite shore. Some participants arriving from the Flaka area had considerable difficulty navigating to the starting point.
A total of 16 teams registered for the event, including 9 children/youths between the ages of 6-14.
As the fog slowly lifted, registration took place around the campfire, where competition numbers and measuring boards were distributed.
Participants donated directly to the Swedish Stroke Association through our fundraising campaign, “Starlings mot Stroke”.
Once everyone was ready, the competition began. A raft carrying the crew from Loppelöja also joined the event.
At lunchtime, participants gathered in Stjärnevik, where Malin, Marcus, Sabina, Elliot, and Erik had prepared a warm meal consisting of hot dogs and potato & onion soup from Låxbo Lantkök. It was greatly appreciated in the chilly autumn weather. The sun stayed throughout the whole day and provided some warmth. During the lunch break, additional visitors stopped by to support the fundraising. In total, over 50 people participated in the event.
Results
Each centimeter of pike counted as 1 point, while each centimeter of perch counted as 2 points.
The longest fish of the day was a 107 cm pike, caught by Markus Brodérus.
The competition was especially close between second and third place, with only 2 cm separating the teams. Congratulations to you all!
Starlings offerd candy to all participating children and youth and Theo Carlsson, who caught the longest fish in the youth category, received a special prize.
Several companies sponsored with prizes, such as, gift cards from The Outdoor Hub in Västervik, gift card from Klang Studio, and three gift cards from Riggad in Rimforsa.
Result of Fundraising
Our goal was to attract 10 teams and raise 3 000 SEK. We exceeded all expectations with 16 teams and a total donation of 7 100 SEK!
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated, sponsored food and prizes, and helped make this event possible ❤️
